The Blue Queen loses a gift she never cared to use, in a prophecy, which is the ability to grow and change. This is what makes the difference between a painting and a painting that’s come to life.
The Blue Queen acts to use the Key without permission, which contains bristles from the magic brush that the Artist used to create the world. In violation of this, she is turned back into a painting, and loses life.
